In the early teens on into the late 1920's and early 30's, Lemule Bright operated a private beach for the African-American community.  It was located out towards Ocean View in the Willoughby Spit area.  Little Bay was quite popular with all segments of the community.  Social clubs, church and fraternal organizations, schools, and the like would organize picnics and outings to Little Bay.  During the summer the large hall would be booked solid with parties, dances, weddings, and all kinds of social events.  It was conveniently located and easily reached by trolley, bus, and automobile. After arriving at the designated stop, one could walk along a long path through a very pleasant and relaxing park to the beach or one could be picked up in a small row boat ferried by Mr. Bright's son.

A family-mother, father, grandmother, and child-are on their way through the park to the main quarters, which can be seen in the background.
