Ocean View Station Museum
In the late 1800's, Ocean View Station existed as a streetcar station - the hub of Ocean View and its attractions. While the original station is gone, today the station is born again as a museum: pictures and memorabilia and the stories of people who call Ocean View home. Like its namesake, OVSM serves as a hub, but this time it is a place to collect, store, and display our past. The original museum began in the early 1990's with space donated by the late Red Thorton of Virginia Realty . The space was to be used until the museum could find a permanent home or until the space was actually rented. Unfortunately, the space was rented before a home was found so the museum went into storage. The Ocean View Station Museum has come home - to the heart of Ocean View in Norfolk, Virginia. We've unpacked our boxes at 9623 Granby Street, which is where the OVSM started. With the help of a matching grant from the State of Virginia and the City of Norfolk we leased the building. This grant was obtained with the help of Councilman Don Williams who is also a member of our Board of Directors. We have now moved to the NEW Pretlow Library at 111 W Ocean View Av. Many thanks to Councilmen Don Williams, the City of Norfolk and the Norfolk Library staff. Since its founding the Ocean View Station Museum has been an exciting place to explore Ocean View history. The museum encourages visitors to discover the past; to reflect on their own lives and their place in history; and to preserve regional, and local history for future generations We are a 501C3 Corporation with a Board of Directors. We have a gift shop with wonderful Ocean View items and will be excepting memberships . Please
